Protect Funding for Global HIV/AIDS
Congress is negotiating a final spending package for fiscal year 2015 right now!
Global HIV/AIDS programs are facing significant funding cuts this year. Lawmakers have many tough budget choices to make, but continuing to prioritize funding for global HIV/AIDS programs should be an easy one. U.S. funded initiatives have resulted in huge successes in the fight against HIV and AIDS, including over one million babies born HIV-free because of the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). More than one million babies.
But our work to end AIDS is nowhere near done. Hundreds of thousands of children are still born HIV positive each year, and many of those lack the medicines necessary to live long and healthy lives. We are at a moment when programmatic scale-up and new scientific advances have decreased the number of new HIV infections, reduced deaths from HIV, and set the stage for the elimination of HIV transmission from mother to child. With strong Congressional support, we can keep the momentum going and move even closer to the end of AIDS.
Please ask your Representative and Senators to keep Congress committed to this fight and urge them to protect funding for global HIV/AIDS.
