WWR: Elizabeth Glaser and Mary Fisher at the 1992 Political Conventions
By Jane Coaston | August 24, 2012
With the Republican and Democratic National Conventions approaching, this week we were reading about two historic speeches about HIV/AIDS from past conventions.
In the New York Times, reporter Dan Shaw provided an update on AIDS activist Mary Fisher, who spoke at the Republican National Convention in 1992.
Living with HIV since 1991, Mary Fisher joined Elizabeth Glaser, who spoke at the Democratic National Convention, in drawing the attention of Americans to the issues facing people living with HIV.
Thanks to Dan Shaw and the New York Times for reminding us of this important activist as we enter convention season.
You can watch both speeches below, and read the original article here.
