This month the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund) launched its “Be the Generation” Campaign. The public service announcement (PSA) series encourages world leaders and individuals alike to be the generation that defeats AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. The star-studded  PSA features moving speeches from celebrity activists such as Bill Gates, Charlize Theron, and Bono.

“This is the moment that we can maybe turn back and look at our children and say there was a time, there was a moment that came along where we all got together… and we changed the course of history,” Theron says in the video.  “The moment is now.”

The Global Fund is an international funding institution that supports programs to prevent, treat, and care for people with HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. For the past decade, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) has worked alongside the Global Fund to implement prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) programs in countries throughout the world.

This March, EGPAF partnered with the Global Fund to launch a new project in Lesotho to support health system strengthening efforts as the country works to eliminate pediatric HIV. The project’s goals include training 3,030 village health workers to improve community-level PMTCT activities, conducting health facility site visits to ensure service quality, and building community engagement for PMTCT service uptake.
