Adult HIV Care & Treatment
Creating an accessible and comprehensive platform through which adults can access HIV services is a crucial component of our work. We strive to ensure adults in our care have the support they need to live long and healthy lives through integrated and comprehensive health services, as well as psychosocial support.
Expansion of HIV Care and Treatment Services
Access to antiretroviral therapy (ART) in Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF)-supported settings has significantly expanded in recent years with EGPAF supporting over 6,000 sites to offer HIV testing and linkage to HIV care and treatment across supported countries. EGPAF continuously supports ministries of health, local partners and supported clinicians to implement World Health Organization treatment guidelines through development of protocols, and training of health staff. We also equip supported facilities with the diagnostic and medical supplies needed to ensure all those living with HIV have immediate access to the most effective treatment.
Improved Retention and Adherence
Ever-growing populations are living longer on ART. However, long-term retention in care and adherence to lifesaving ART are critical challenges to individuals and the health system. EGPAF trains and mentors health workers and counselors to provide ongoing adherence support to clients and affected families. Special emphasis is placed on training and supporting non-medical facilities and community health workers in follow-up of clients who have missed services or struggled with accessing and maintaining ART. EGPAF also ensures that facilities link clients to relevant clinical, social and community-based services such as home-based, palliative, prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission services, nutritional clinics, and programs for orphans and vulnerable children to maximize comprehensive service delivery as well as improved retention and adherence.
Providing Integrated HIV and Health Services
A comprehensive health delivery model, which offers clients an array of health services along with HIV prevention, care and treatment is the most effective approach to HIV service delivery. In several countries, EGPAF supports HIV/tuberculosis care integration, HIV/syphilis screening, care and treatment, HIV/cervical cancer screening and treatment, reproductive health and HIV service integration, as well as general health and nutritional services for clients in our supported sites.
