Last week I had the opportunity to watch our Foundation Ambassador, Jake Glaser, inspire a group of future advocates in the fight against HIV/AIDS. I attended the 5th Annual San Gabriel Valley City of Hope HIV/AIDS Action Summit, sponsored by California Assemblymember Anthony Portantino, and presented by the City of Hope organization.

Foundation supporters and celebrities gathered in sunny Santa Monica this past weekend for the 22nd annual A Time For Heroes Celebrity Picnic, sponsored by Disney.

At this year’s safari-themed event, guests joined the Foundation for fun, games, and great food – all to support the Foundation’s mission to eliminate pediatric AIDS.

Elizabeth Glaser started the event in Los Angeles in 1990, just two years after she created the Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Its purpose was to raise critical money and awareness to fight AIDS in children.

This weekend marked 30 years since the first AIDS diagnosis. To commemorate the anniversary, I had the pleasure of joining Foundation Vice President of Research Dr. Laura Guay as she spoke at a public event on Friday.

It wasn’t her typical audience of scientists, policy makers, or journalists. This time, she spoke about the three-decade fight against the global AIDS epidemic to an audience of stamp collectors.

Dr. Guay was the keynote speaker at the annual National Philatelic Exhibition (NAPEX) in suburban Washington, D.C.

You might ask, what does stamp collecting have to do with HIV/AIDS? To find out click past the jump.

Yesterday we introduced you to Janice McCall, one of our newest Foundation Ambassadors. Today, we're going to tell you more about one of the original Ambassadors, a young woman who has been working with the Foundation for nearly a decade, Ramona Belfiore.

A senior at Drew University in New Jersey, Ramona was recently the spotlight of a cover story in her school's magazine. She has led an amazing life, beginning in an orphanage in Romania before Bill and Susan Belfiore adopted her and three other HIV-positive orphans, taking them to the United States to grow up as a family.

Dr. Susan Strasser, the Foundation’s Zambia country director, was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing (AAN) as a 2010 Fellow over the weekend. The ceremony was part of the 37th Annual AAN Meeting and Conference held in Washington, D.C.

Induction into the Academy is one of the most prestigious honors for a member of the nursing community. Dr. Strasser is one of only 1,600 nurses ever to be afforded this honor, and was recognized for her accomplishments and contributions to the field, and her continued impact through her work in Africa.

Click through to read about Dr. Strasser's achievement and her work in Zambia to support the Foundation's efforts to eliminate pediatric AIDS.

November 2, 2010

This year, instead of giving someone a video game, or a pair of socks, or a gift card to the mall, give a donation to help the Foundation eliminate pediatric AIDS.

Designed by children living with HIV, these special cards share the magic of the holidays and the impact of the Foundation, as seen through the eyes of children affected by our work.

Continue past the jump to read about two brothers who helped design this year's cards, and see all of the cards available for purchase.
