Last week, the Foundation brought the issue of pediatric AIDS to Capitol Hill as part of a Congressional Global Health Caucus briefing on global health and children.
The Foundation joined World Vision, Save the Children, and CARE USA in a packed room to discuss child-focused global health programs. Congressional staffers from more than 25 offices learned about childhood diseases and health issues, and numerous success stories of U.S.-funded programs to keep children alive and healthy.

Yesterday, after a period of debate over structure of its research networks, the National Institutes of Health's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases made public their decision to maintain a network solely dedicated to maternal/pediatric AIDS research.
The Foundation spoke out in support of preserving this kind of network, which has been involved in much of the cutting-edge research that has led to our knowledge of how to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV.

As the AIDS Vaccine 2010 conference begins today in Atlanta, there are changes coming at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) that could impact pediatric and maternal HIV research.
The structure of the clinical trials networks that are critical to advancing this research is currently being reevaluated by the Division of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (DAIDS) of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Read more after the jump.
