As we begin a New Year, we’d like to share the story of an EGPAF peer counselor who is also a mother living with HIV. After learning her status, Flora learned more about HIV/AIDS and the prevention of mother-to-child transmission. Now, she helps other mothers keep themselves and their babies healthy and HIV-free.

Last week, the Foundation hosted a presentation on the history and future of HIV/AIDS, “The AIDS Epidemic at Year 30: Is There an End in Sight?” Led by Dr. Mike McCune of San Francisco General Hospital, the presentation provided an overview of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and where we are on the path to a cure. After his presentation, Dr. McCune talked with us about why some people living with HIV aren’t taking antiretrovirals, what challenges we face in creating an HIV vaccine, and the role of preventative medicines in HIV treatment.

Our Foundation Ambassadors are essential to how we share what we do. They travel across the United States and around the world, sharing information about how mother-to-child HIV transmission is preventable and what the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation is doing to create a generation free of HIV/AIDS. This holiday season, we're competing for air miles through the United Airlines Charity Miles program.
