Originally from Tanzania, Fortunata Kasege moved to the United States more than 13 years ago to pursue her dream of becoming a journalist. Pregnant at the time, she was not aware that she was living with HIV until she received an HIV test during a routine visit to the doctor.
Luckily, Fortunata had access to services to prevent the transmission of HIV to her unborn child. Today, she is raising her bright, beautiful, HIV-negative teenage daughter, Florida, and together they are advocating for families, women, and children affected by HIV around the world.
In recognition of World AIDS Day, Fortunata has shared her personal story of living with HIV and raising an HIV-negative child. Continue after the jump to read Fortunata's inspiring blog post about the importance of prevention, and her incredible gift to her daughter.
