In the nation’s capital of Washington, D.C., it can be difficult to get important people into one room to discuss one topic. But this morning, American politicians, representatives from international NGOs, and international celebrities gathered on Capitol Hill to discuss a topic that affects millions of people around the world: AIDS.

Grammy award-winning singer and HIV/AIDS activist Alicia Keys hosted a webcast Monday to unveil the result of her new partnership with the Kaiser Family Foundationthe Empowered Campaign. The campaign is focused on domestic awareness and seeks to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS amongst American women by combating the stigma and misinformation that surrounds the disease.

EGPAF Ambassador Cristina Pena is taking part in a new project with musical artist Alicia Keys and the organization Greater Than AIDS. The Empowered Campaign is focused on speaking to women and girls about HIV – one in four people living with HIV in the United States is female. Cristina is dedicated to working for women and girls and encouraging education, prevention, and treatment efforts.
