What We're Doing

“I started out just a mom fighting for the life of her child.”
– Elizabeth Glaser (1947-1994)
More than 20 years ago, Elizabeth Glaser realized there was a moment to act—to change attitudes, demand action, and give a voice to children and families affected by HIV and AIDS.
During her brilliant life, Elizabeth Glaser tapped every ounce of her courage to speak the truth. She understood better than anyone that mothers everywhere have the right to know how to prevent the transfer of HIV to their children – and that children living with HIV must have access to the same lifesaving treatments as infected adults.
In Elizabeth’s name, EGPAF fights on.
Through its
research,
programmatic, and
advocacy work, which is concentrated in some of the
countries hit hardest by the AIDS pandemic, EGPAF leads the charge against pediatric AIDS on three fronts:
- The first is to champion the best interventions for the prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV.
- The second is to provide quality care and treatment to mothers and children who are HIV-positive in order to eliminate HIV-related maternal, neonatal, and child mortality.
- Finally, EGPAF works to strengthen national health systems to improve outcomes for mothers and children.
Along with governments, businesses and other organizations, we are working toward a common goal:
the elimination of new HIV infections among children by 2015.
