New Multi-year Effort Led By American Express and TakePart Challenges Online Community to Make a Difference

Washington, D.C.—The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation has been selected as a partner in Members Project, an innovative online initiative started by American Express and TakePart, that provides those with a passion for philanthropy and an interest in giving back an opportunity to take small steps to make a big difference.

Between March 8 and May 31, supporters can vote for the Foundation, which is one of 10 charities chosen in the “Health and Wellness” category, by visiting www.takepart.com/membersproject. Following the voting process, American Express will award five charities – the vote leader in each of five categories – $200,000 to benefit their respective cause.

For just $15, the Foundation can provide an HIV-positive pregnant woman with the services needed to prevent the transmission of HIV to her baby. A $200,000 award from American Express would result in helping to prevent more than 13,000 new HIV infections around the world.

In addition to voting for the Foundation or their favorite charity, the program encourages everyone – American Express cardmember or not – to share their stories and inspire others. Through Members Project, people can learn more about pediatric HIV/AIDS and other issues they care about, volunteer, donate, and drive change through a comprehensive suite of advocacy tools including social networking, viral video, and mobile outreach.

The Foundation hopes that friends and supporters will visit the Members Project site and cast their vote in support of the its lifesaving efforts, and help create a generation free of HIV.
