Foundation President and CEO Charles Lyons Welcomes the Appointment of Anthony Lake as New Executive Director of UNICEF

March 16, 2010

Washington, D.C.—The following is a statement from Charles Lyons, President and CEO of the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation:

The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation welcomes the appointment of Anthony Lake to be the next Executive Director of UNICEF, as announced by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on March 16. Mr. Lake’s tremendous breadth of experience – as foreign policy advisor to presidents, as National Security Advisor to President Bill Clinton, and as Chairman of the Board of the United States Fund for UNICEF – makes this a particularly astute choice to advance the well-being of children around the world. Mr. Lake’s appointment marks a moment of new opportunity for an organization whose leadership, commitment, passion, and deep global reach for children makes vital contributions to meeting global health goals. We look forward to the opportunity to work with Mr. Lake and UNICEF, including to achieving the elimination of pediatric HIV and AIDS. With his leadership, we are confident we can create a generation free of HIV.
