Bill Gates Highlights the Elimination of Pediatric AIDS at Vienna Conference

July 19, 2010

In a special session at the 18th International AIDS Conference in Vienna, Austria, Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, called for a new focus on efficiency on HIV and AIDS treatment and prevention, as well as continued innovation in order to “end the story of AIDS.”

The session, titled “Building on Success: A Roadmap for HIV Prevention,” featured a question-and-answer period with Gates, moderated by Charles Lyons, the president and CEO of the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

During the course of the Q&A period, Gates praised the Foundation’s global efforts, and spoke about the urgent need to expand the reach of services to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
