Message From the Côte d’Ivoire Country Director, Dr. Joseph Essombo

Joseph with Foundation President and CEO Pamela W. Barnes.
I started working with the Foundation as country director in April 2005, and I often wake up in the morning with the strong feeling that God has provided me with a unique opportunity to mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS on the lives of HIV-infected people. As an HIV/AIDS activist, I used to be on the front line of the struggle, but this is the first time I am making such high-level decisions, not for me but for all those in Côte d’Ivoire who are infected or affected by HIV/AIDS.

My dream is progressively turning to reality as the “dream team” surrounding me helps more and more people to go on antiretroviral treatment and more and more women to receive PMTCT services. Much has been done but much remains to be done. With the Foundation’s support, my team and I are committed to go as far as possible in saving lives and procuring smiles of hope in our community, despite the heart-breaking political situation here.
