HIV/AIDS Research and Training Programs

Since 1988, the Foundation has funded groundbreaking research in the field of pediatric HIV/AIDS with the hope of ending this devastating pandemic. We focus on urgent and innovative projects, bring vigorous minds together in collaboration, bridge gaps within the medical and research communities, and serve as a voice for children and families around the world.

Driven by the spirit of collaboration, we strive to find more effective treatments to:

  • Slow HIV in infected children;
  • Prevent new infections;
  • Develop a preventative vaccine; and
  • Ultimately find a cure for HIV/AIDS.

The Foundation has no open solicitations at this time. Please check back soon for available grant opportunities.

HIV/AIDS Research: Basic and Clinical Vaccine Research
Pediatric HIV Vaccine Research Grants [Check back soon for solicitation]
While PMTCT programs are already reducing newborn HIV infection rates, infants born to HIV-positive mothers are still at risk for contracting HIV through breast-feeding due to the lack of a pediatric HIV vaccine. The Foundation’s Pediatric HIV Vaccine Research Program provides grants for basic and pre-clinical research addressing pediatric HIV vaccine design and development.

HIV/AIDS Research: Operations Research for Implementation and Program Improvement
Operations Research Grants [No open solicitations]
The Foundation is committed to improving prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV programs worldwide, but limited research exists on the effectiveness and mechanisms to improve these programs. The Foundation offers grants for such operations research, which is critical to determining the most effective ways to administer these lifesaving programs. Research findings can then be then widely disseminated to assist in global PMTCT efforts.

HIV/AIDS Research: Technical Leadership and Training
Elizabeth Glaser Scientist Award [No open solicitations]
This prestigious award provides up to $682,500 in research funding over a five-year period, enabling recipients to focus their long-term efforts on issues specific to pediatric HIV/AIDS.

International Leadership Award (ILA) [No open solicitations]
The ILA program fills a critical gap in the development of research leaders in resource-poor countries that are working to eradicate pediatric AIDS.

Two-Year Scholar Awards [No open solicitations]
This program allows scientists to study pediatric HIV/AIDS early in their careers. They receive two years of salary support, plus supplies and/or travel costs. Scientists are supported by mentors with an established track record in the field.

Two-Year International Scholar Awards [No open solicitations]
This program is for individuals from, and working in, developing countries. The award encourages scholars to gain developing-country experience while at the same time increasing the research capacity of the in-country location.
