Foundation Announces International Leadership Award Recipients
The three newest International Leadership Award winners were announced in Johannesburg on November 29, in a ceremony at the Foundation's South Africa country office. The prestigious scientific honor supports innovative projects by the best scientists working in places hardest hit by the AIDS pandemic, who mentor and train other promising researchers in their countries. Congratulations to the newest ILAs: Dr. Anneke C. Hesseling of South Africa; Dr. Assan Jaye of The Gambia; and Dr. Purnima Madhivanan of India.

Foundation President Delivers Keynote at International AIDS Conference
Foundation President and CEO Pamela W. Barnes delivered a keynote address at the 2007 Global Partners Forum, co-sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF. The two-day event brought together national leaders and international organizations to focus on preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV around the world.

Foundation Raises Profile of Issue for World AIDS Day
December 1 was the twentieth World AIDS Day. Foundation staff and supporters were involved in events taking place from Washington, D.C., to Zimbabwe and everywhere in between. Barnes and long-time supporter James Caan lent their voices to a PSA heard by 21 million radio listeners; country offices sponsored events across Africa; and from a vantage point in Johannesburg, Barnes conducted radio interviews for U.S. news outlets. Foundation-Funded Care and Treatment Clinic Opens in Mozambique
On World AIDS Day, the Foundation helped to open a new clinic in Boane, Mozambique, that will provide care and treatment to families living with HIV. "The best medicine you can have for any child is a healthy mother and father to take care of that child," Pam Barnes said in remarks at the opening.

Barnes Addresses First National Pediatric AIDS Conference
Just days after World AIDS Day, Barnes spoke to a group of 250 doctors from southern Africa at the First National Pediatric AIDS Conference in Mozambique. The conference was held December 2 through 5 in the capital city of Maputo. Attendees gathered to discuss important issues surrounding children's health. Barnes called the conference critical to children and their families in the region.

New Care and Treatment Clinic Offers Hope to Thousands
With support from the Foundation, a new care and treatment clinic opened at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center in Tanzania on December 3. The Child-Centered Family Care Clinic will provide important care for children infected with HIV and their families, while also maintaining a focus on training and research. The opening of the clinic came shortly after Tanzania's President Kikwete visited with Foundation staff at a World AIDS Day event.

University Dance Marathons Benefit Foundation, Raise Awareness
In December, college students are usually preparing for final exams and term papers due at the close of the semester. But the students at American University in Washington, D.C., and DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, had another activity to focus on -- holding dance marathons to raise funds for the Foundation and raise awareness about pediatric AIDS.

Foundation Country Directors Visit United States
Ten country directors from Africa journeyed to the Foundation's Washington, D.C., office for a meeting in November 2007. During a jam-packed week in the U.S., directors met with Foundation staff members, national and international reporters, members of the U.S. Congress, and participated in an event for Foundation donors. "Meeting the other country directors and U.S. staff face-to-face gives us the opportunity to share experiences and collaborate on best practices and solutions to common problems we may face," commented the Foundation's country director for Rwanda Nancy Fitch.

Walt Disney's Club Penguin Virtually Supports Foundation
For 10 days, from December 14 through 24, kids playing in the virtual reality world of
Club Penguin can donate virtual coins they accumulate by playing games to a cause that matters to them. The Foundation is one of three causes for kids to choose from.
