Foundation Wins Technology Innovation Award
10/20/2008
On Friday, October 17, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation was announced as the winner of a 2008 NPower Greater DC Region Technology Innovation Award, presented by Accenture. NPower Greater DC Region, a nonprofit technology consulting firm, and an esteemed panel of judges honored the Foundation for its creation of GLASER (Global AIDS System for Evaluating and Reporting).
GLASER is a web-based program designed to facilitate quarterly reporting of data and information-sharing across and within the 18 countries where the Foundation works.
It was launched by the Foundation in 2007 in an effort to better collect, manage, and report on program activities and results within its International Family AIDS Initiatives. GLASER primarily monitors the number of women and children served by Foundation-supported sites for HIV treatment and prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT).
“Despite infrastructure and technical capacity challenges in the resource-limited settings where we work, the GLASER system has allowed us to greatly improve the quality and availability of the data we collect and use for program improvement initiatives,” said Sara Pacqué-Margolis, the Foundation’s Director of Monitoring and Evaluation. “In pursuing our global mission of an HIV-free generation, it is proving to be a highly efficient and effective tool. The system enables us to track our progress in reaching more people with critical counseling, testing, prevention, care and treatment services.”
“We are honored to be recognized by NPower and its partners with the Technology Innovation Award,” said Mark Reilley, the Foundation’s Director of Information Technology. “Developing and implementing GLASER was a group effort that succeeded thanks to the support of everyone at the Foundation, from our executive team on down, and a close partnership between the IT and Program departments.”
As part of its award, the Foundation will receive a full suite of technology services valued at $35,000, including a strategic technology consulting plan from NPower Greater DC Region (underwritten by Accenture), Microsoft software, and $1,000 in cash.
“The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation [is an] organization that demonstrates how all charities should be using technology to fulfill their missions and dramatically increase their impact in our communities. We are thrilled to recognize [the Foundation] with this award,” said Katherine LaVelle, NPower Greater DC Region Board Chair and Managing Partner from Accenture.
