Nigel Barker Visits Capitol Hill on Behalf of the Foundation
5/6/2009
On May 6, fashion photographer and America’s Next Top Model judge Nigel Barker visited Capitol Hill with Foundation President and CEO Pam Barnes. The pair met with Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.) — a champion on the issue of pediatric AIDS — about the Foundation’s advocacy efforts. They also discussed the Foundation’s global programs to prevent HIV transmission from mother to child and treat children and families living with the virus.
Barker was in Washington to film segments with Congresswoman Lowey for an upcoming documentary on the Foundation’s work. He recently traveled to Foundation-supported sites in Tanzania, capturing footage on the front lines of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. The documentary is set to premiere in Washington, D.C., this fall.
“We had a life-changing experience,” Barker said of his trip to Tanzania. “Despite the dire straits many find themselves in because of diseases like HIV/AIDS, there is more than just hope to hold onto. Due to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation’s efforts, real results are achievable.”
