Zimbabwe: Moving To Eliminate Pediatric AIDS

While great progress has been made in the fight against HIV and AIDS globally, the number of children living with HIV on the African continent is high and rising. An estimated two-thirds of the world’s HIV-positive adults and children reside in sub-Saharan Africa – and in Zimbabwe, there were an estimated 1.3 million individuals living with HIV in 2008 (source: UNAIDS). Of these, 120,000 were children under the age of 15. EGPAF continues to work closely with the Ministry Of Health and Child Welfare, partners, health workers, volunteers and beneficiaries in pursuit of the elimination of pediatric AIDS in Zimbabwe. Horse-riding for Health Program Brings Hope to Mothers and Children in Lesotho

Numerous times a week, through the mountainous terrain and thin air of Lesotho, they ride. Theirs is a solitary and often treacherous journey across this land appropriately called the "Kingdom in the Sky" – but their efforts embody the depth of their commitment to the future of their nation. They are the couriers of blood samples, HIV test results, vital information, and desperately-needed medication to and from the remote mountain clinics and communities that dot the jagged slopes of Mokhotlong district. Beneath them stand Basotho ponies – rugged animals able to navigate the landscape of Lesotho like no vehicle can. Health authorities in Mokhotlong have partnered with EGPAF for three years on the Horse-riding for Health program, serving mothers, children and families in a nation where HIV prevalence rates are among Africa’s highest. Malawi: Celebrating A Call to Action

EGPAF recently celebrated the conclusion of a five-year $1.4 million project to scale up prevention of mother-to-child transmisson services in Malawi. This exhibition tells the story of the people we work with and the lives the program has touched. It is a testament that together, we can bring hope for an HIV-free generation in Malawi. A Time For Heroes Celebrity Picnic 2010

At the A Time For Heroes Celebrity Picnic in Los Angeles on June 13, 2010, guests hung out with Hollywood’s hottest stars, played carnival games, and enjoyed unbelievable food while helping create a generation free of HIV. Thanks to the support of our donors and sponsors — including title sponsor Disney — this year's picnic raised $1.3 million to help EGPAF eliminate pediatric AIDS. Charles Lyons Visits EGPAF Programs in South Africa: April 2010

Rwanda Ariel Children's Camp: December 2009

In December 2009, 40 children between the ages of 8 and 19 gathered in northern Rwanda for the Ariel Children's Camp. The camp, named for Elizabeth Glaser's daughter Ariel, gives children with HIV the chance to learn about living with the virus, share experiences with other children facing the same challenges, and just have fun.
