The global fight against HIV/AIDS is at a crossroads. We are at a moment when programmatic scale-up and new scientific advances have decreased the number of new HIV infections, reduced deaths from HIV, and set the stage for the elimination of HIV transmission from mother to child. We are on the verge of an AIDS-free generation, which means that funding for these programs is more important than ever. U.S.-funded HIV/AIDS programs have enrolled more than 4.5 million people on lifesaving antiretroviral therapy in low- and middle-income countries, and investments in important prevention programs have helped to avert millions of new HIV infections around the world. With strong Congressional support, we can keep the momentum going and move even closer to the end of AIDS.
