Our Pledge to the Foundation's Donors and Supporters
The Foundation takes its mission of eliminating pediatric AIDS – and its attendant management and stewardship responsibilities – extremely seriously. We are immensely grateful to the individual and organizational donors and stakeholders who enable us to continue our lifesaving work around the world.
We are proud to be a well-managed organization that holds itself to the highest ethical standards and administers its funds responsibly. Here are some of the systems, controls, and initiatives the Foundation has put in place to ensure that your generous contributions are well managed and go where they are most needed.
Corporate Culture – From top to bottom, the Foundation’s culture is one of professional integrity. We conduct annual trainings for staff on business ethics, including procurement ethics. In addition, we have a “zero tolerance policy” for fraud; we have implemented a Fraud Prevention and Identification Program, and have empowered employees to report concerns anytime through our 24-hour Whistleblower Hotline.
Internal Controls – The Foundation has put internal controls, policies, and procedures in place that regulate all aspects of our operations in the U.S. and overseas. These controls include monthly internal reviews of financial transactions and expense reports; procurement controls, and policies regarding the use of equipment and other resources. We also have a clearly defined Conflict of Interest Policy and disclosure process.
Human Resources – The Foundation seeks to hire and retain staff members who demonstrate the highest levels of integrity as well as professional competency. We have created several key positions (such as Director, Internal Audit; Compliance and Risk Manager; and a field-based Senior Compliance Officer) and an International Accounting Compliance group to promote and verify compliance. Our field operations are extensively supported and carefully overseen by headquarters.
External Verification – The Foundation is subject to a stringent annual audit of its financial statements and management controls by an independent auditor (Ernst & Young), and we have received clean audits for several consecutive years. Further, the Foundation has undergone several reviews of our field operations by donors, including USAID and UNICEF, and we have met donor standards in all cases. Finally, we meet all the transparency and ethical standards of the independent rating service Charity Navigator.
