On July 20, 2018, His Majesty King Mswati, made an impromptu visit to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation’s offices at the Sincephetelo MVA Office Park in Eswatini. The day will be recorded as one of the most historic days for EGPAF in Eswatini.
His Majesty, who was officially opening the MVA office building, where EGPAF is a tenant, decided to make a stop over to the EGPAF offices, applauding the Foundation for doing a great job in the fight against pediatric HIV and AIDS in the Kingdom of Eswatini.
“You are doing a great job,” were the actual words of His Majesty after short briefing on the work of the Foundation in the Kingdom of Eswatini by EGPAF-Eswatini Acting Country Director, Dr. Caspian Chouraya.
Dr. Chouraya explained to the King (and his more than 20 member delegation) how EGPAF has worked with the Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini’s Ministry of Health, with funding from the United States President’s Emergency Plans for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), in the fight against pediatric HIV since the Foundation started work in Eswatini in 2003.
Dr. Chouraya indicated to the King that EGPAF was pleased with the significant milestones hit in the fight to end pediatric HIV in the country, as evidenced by the decline in the rate of mother-to-child transmission of HIV in recent years in the country.
“We are pleased by your support, your Majesty. We have made a significant impact as we support your government under the Ministry of Health in the reduction of pediatric HIV in the Kingdom of Eswatini,” Dr. Chouraya said.
The King’s visit to the EGPAF office was the first of its kind as he has never stepped in any other non-governmental organization’s offices.
Emaswati believe that a visit by His Majesty the King, to any organization or particular office, brings a blessing, hence the need to be cherished and valued by all.
