Dancer Diaries: Berkeley Dreams of an HIV-Free generation

On March 15, Berkeley Dance Marathon participants at the University of California, Berkeley stood UP 4 THE FIGHT with the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF). Dancers, volunteers, and special guests played carnival games, heard compelling facts and stories about pediatric HIV/AIDS, and ultimately reflected on what they learned during their 12 hours of dancing.

This year’s dance marathon featured a performance from YouTube singer-songwriter David Choi, and an inspiring speech from EGPAF Foundation Ambassador Hydeia Broadbent. 

“Without you — without your commitment to dance, to raise money, to join what Elizabeth started — we wouldn’t be where we are today,” Broadbent told students at the event. “On behalf of the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and the kids who have a chance to grow up healthy and HIV-positive, thank you. Please know what an incredible impact you’re making.”

At the end of the evening, dancers stood for a moment of silence, holding up glow sticks during a candlelight vigil. The words on their shirts spoke of what they desired: “We dream of an HIV-FREE generation.”

With support from friends and family, Berkeley Dance Marathon students raised more than $20,000 for the fight against pediatric HIV/AIDS. Check out a video recap of the event below!
